August 23, 2023

Let us introduce our first woman NDT Inspector Controller 3.4U Siti Hajar Azkhir!

Describe your professional experience before joining PETRODIVE.

My career began as an Assistant QAQC Engineer at Daelim Group after finishing my bachelor of Welding and Quality Inspection internship for the same project at Petron Refinery and then moving to QAQC Engineer at Ocean Vantage Inspection Testing. Later, I started to enter Commercial Diving as a Project Engineer with Blackpearl Subsea Services. Afterward, I received an offer from Surya Nautika as Field Engineer/ Inspection Engineer for Underwater Inspection and QAQC Inspector at CCIEE Group before entering PETRODIVE as NDT Inspector Controller 3.4U. I feel grateful for all the great and incredible inspection experiences involving onshore, inshore, and offshore.

Why did you choose PETRODIVE?

I choose PETRODIVE because I want to explore different cultures in work in other fields outside of Asia. I like to be outside of my comfort zone. I feel glad and honored to join PETRODIVE as the first woman on board. Thankfully, the people in PETRODIVE and in Congo are very welcoming and it feels surreal to be working and experiencing the new working environment and culture.

How do you feel being the only woman surrounded by men?

I used to be in an environment filled with men since childhood. Being the only daughter in the family has taught me a lot. It is quite challenging yet gives me a good human experience for the growing process. My principle in work is to always treat myself as an equal gender during one shift, stay professional and focus on the role.

What is your advice for women in the Industry?

You need to be ready to shift your mindset once in the field, be prepared both mentally and physically and keep focus on your role and passion. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what seems impossible to be possible. Nothing comes easy in the world, keep the faith and focus on the great things.
